AuthorSpeak: Frederick Douglass Free Poster
Frederick Douglass, who was born a slave in 1818, secretly educated himself and escaped to the North at twenty. His firm belief that the institution of slavery corrupted both slaves and masters, which he put forth in his Narrative, propelled him to national prominence. He even met President Lincoln. A true social reformer, an advocate for women’s rights, a great orator and preacher, the first African American nominated to be Vice President, and an American Ambassador, Douglass proved that through perseverance and desire, anything can be achieved.
