Teaching Shakespeare: "Sonnet 73" Free Lesson Plan
Within this lesson, your students will learn to identify a Shakespearean sonnet by recognizing the rhyme scheme, the quatrains, and the ending couplet. When analyzing the poem, your students will start off with its literal meaning before diving into the symbolic message Shakespeare is representing. By the time the lesson is complete, your students will understand the difference between metaphoric and connotative meaning, and they will be able to supply textual evidence for non-literal interpretations of a poem.
