Slant, Spin, and Bias in the News Free Lesson Plan
Nearly all nonfiction writing uses slant, spin or bias with the goal of influencing the reader in some way. In this lesson, you’ll teach your students how writers use these techniques as well as how to recognize them. You’ll start the lesson by introducing each new term and, with the aid of current news articles, demonstrate how each technique works. By the end of the lesson, your students will be able to compare biases between different sources and analyze a text to identify hidden or blatant bias.
