Nelle Harper Lee was born in Monroeville, Alabama, on April 28, 1926. To Kill a Mockingbird, the book that is consistently named as one of the greatest American novels ever written, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1961. She died at her home in Monroeville on February 19, 2016.
